Beyond the Gate strips the spectacle of horse racing down to its ancient, atemporal core. Shot in black and white from ground level at the world's most storied racecourses, this collection captures the instant a starting gate opens and four thousand years of breeding, ritual, and human ambition collapse into a single act of running — dirt, sinew, speed, and the covenant between horse and earth.
Shot from the Path of the Charge
The camera sits two feet above the dirt track — directly in the path of the oncoming field. This is not sports photography from the grandstand. This is ground-level encounter, where the viewer experiences the race as the earth does: feeling the vibration before seeing the horses, watching the dirt spray rise like weather, sensing twelve hundred pounds of thoroughbred resolve closing the distance.
Photographed across four continents — Churchill Downs, Meydan, Gulfstream Park, Royal Ascot — the collection strips away emerald turf, rose garlands, and corporate insignia. In black and white, the century disappears. What remains is the ancient act itself: the same covenant between horse and speed that existed when Hittite charioteers first gripped the reins.
